ORIGINALLY: Advice for Newbie Fish Keepers? What Should They Know?

    ABOUT ME:

I've been keeping fish for about 18 years. Back in January, I decided to start an Instagram account as I really wanted to meet other fish hobbyist, also another reason why I joined this site. No one in my family kept fish when I started and no one does now. I'm quite the fish loner in my family and really wanted to talk to others about my love for the species.

Over the summer, I started a YouTube channel. A lot of people, newbies mostly, were asking me questions on my Instagram and I felt as if I couldn't type everything they needed to know, nor could I post a video due to the silly one minute limit. Thus, Cheyenne Goldfish was born.

    PURPOSE OF THREAD:

To share new videos posted to my channel and for discussion. Input is welcome, as well as ideas for new videos, which you find relevant to goldfish keeping.

Oh dear god where do we start?
-Tank requirements is the biggest things. Too many goldfish and even bettas for that matter are going to small bowls
    -Food
    -Tank mates
    -tank substrate
    -Goldfish friendly plants
    The list goes on

My main one is no bowls! No fish deserves a tiny bowl...

I'm actually having a interview Tomorrow at a fish store in Portland. I could use a video on how to convey to people that bowls are bad for fish.

I did just publish a video from the questions that were mentioned on my Instagram. I'll definitely do one about fish bowls tomorrow.

I just caught your show. Two fins up. I'm sorry I wasn't able to catch every word but I did l like when you said that constipation did not= SBD. OMG, Everytime a fish sits on the bottom or doesn't crap,it automatically has SBD and some newbie starts dumping $$$$$ of unnecessary medications on it, when all they had to do was feed it some spinach. Maybe that can be a topic, To med or not to med.

Good luck and Happy gramming, Jim.

Its spelled differently than what normal people spell it. :p So glad you touched the subject of bowls. I cant tell you how many times I got yelled at because they put a goldfish in a bowl and it died a few days later. Its their fault and ignorance. I explain to them why and what happened to the fish and they go on a "its just a fish" tangent. People dont like being told they are wrong

I'm a newbie, and I am still trying to understand the filter, how much current is needed, etc. I have a big filter, and everyone says that you need a good filter with goldfish. I find that I have a strong current though, and that is bad for fancys. What is good, bad, and how to fix it? Thanks.
