Does anyone out there raise celestials? I'd like to get some for breeding. I'm in Dallas, TX and they seem to be very hard to come by. I would like some that are of breeding age/size. I might even be interested in smaller fish/culls or adults that maybe only have the telescope eyes, but don't look upward much (not so 'stargaze-y').

Any leads or info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Adam

There is someone on this list with the username Celestial who specializes in them. I have not seen him here for a while.

If you can't get in touch with a breeder (and I would definitely recommend getting goldfish from a breeder when possible) there is a site called buygoldfishonline.com that sells a large variety of goldfish, including celestials, but their stock looks pretty limited right now. I think I read somewhere that is usually the case in the summer. They have one for sale in their fish with picture section. In the stock section they are much cheaper but you don't get to see them before you buy.

Thank you for the reply! BGO had two others for sale in addition to the chocolate one still advertised. I bought the other two. They're super cool and very healthy.

Those celestials are actually quite nice! Hope they are a pair. Mine have not thrown good offsprings so I'm still struggling to get a F1 generation. I gave them a last chance this year and I presently have some fry. Many fry have bad tail fins: webbed, close together and/or curved down top lobes. No issue with vestigial dorsal fin although some show uneven backs. I have some hope on about 10 fry and also hoping that the eyes turn up right.

Hey, those are nice! Much nicer than my fish! :) I'm glad you managed to get a few fry out of them. I bought mine initially because I want to try to produce 'telechus', crossing them with my ranchus. But once I got them, I realized how unique and special they are. I love 'em! They're so weird. So, I'm hoping that I have a male and female as well, should I want to try to breed proper celestials in the future.

    Cheers,

    ~Adam

Quality goldfish is so hard to find that I'd take them when I see them and think about space later.

I like these fish a lot, just too ament varieties out there. Gerard, I would not be too discouraged. There may have been other issues with water that may have affected the finnage. Breed them again next opportunity to collect and see.
