From growing the Blue Phoenix I believe it is blue with a orange underlayment, when the blue decolors you end up with orange fish:exact:

Smartt calls the green color "wild type". See page 126 and 132.

I agree with Joe Smartt. Sorry guys but I think "green" is a clever description to sell uncoloured fish/fish which are very slow to decolour. To be honest I have only seen "green" fish (they were Ranchu) offered for sale in the UK twice and I would certainly describe those as "uncoloured". "Uncoloured" metallic fish from my Bristol Shubunkins actually display a range of "colours" if grown on and they could possibly be described as bronze, green, blue and even black and purple at times depending on the intensity and direction of light. I will of course be fully prepared to eat my words if someone posts a photo of a "green" goldfish on this site - only two stipulations - firstly it must be a photo of a fish they actually own and secondly the "green" must be the same colour green as my grass. Any takers!!!!!!

The fish we call metallic green (wild color) represent no more of a misnomer than the fish we call metallic blue.

Exactly Steve. Long live the reds and the red and whites!

Personally, I get tired of the red and red/whites! LOL! I have a greenish/tea colored ranchu that I got from Steve and I love its coloring. Don't get me wrong, red and red/whites are beautiful, but I like more of a variety in my collection. It's all just personal preference.

I prefer red-and-white for all top view varieties. The background is invariably dark and metallic red/white provides the best contrast. In a well-lighted aquarium, more variety is pleasing.

Hi I once went to a garden centre that was offering green Ranchu for sale. They were not green IMO simply un-coloured. I think John is correct in his assumption that the description 'Green' is a way to make money.

Best wishes Billy

As long as the seller is honest with what the fish are genetically. No deception for quick buck.

The greens at GC are really dark almost blk on tops/er edges. They do not look wild caught. Unless they are playing white balance or underexposing, there is a definite greenish hue, seen on sides. I want to see older greens! Come on post PICS! >:D<When the sun comes into my new ranchu tank i am going to set up, I think these "green fish" will look Awesome!
