Good find, lots of beautiful fish.

These are side-view ranchu (or Chinese Lionchu as some people would call them).

Dan; I am confused with your statement. Are you only referring to the two white ranchu? If you go back and look at 01-01-10. Those side view I think look great. Nice backs good head growth and incredible colors.

They are starting their TVR production line as well.

I agree, if you look at the many baskest and groups of Ranchu on this page, it is obvious that they are very near to perfecting TVR. The SVR are great, Dave Mandley and I have been looking at these and sinc ethey are not miniproducers but more like the "big box" store of Ranchu they will take over.

Hey Dan, you know, just like the Thai did with Bettas!

The fish have nice bodies and thick caudal peduncles. For such large fish - I calculate that, unless the hand is very small, these fish must be 5 inches or so in length, the hoods lack development. The tails too seem small and perhaps rather stiff. Given that these fish are said to be a year old (I assume that they were photographed as Tosai), compare them to the fish discussed in the "Nice fish development" thread. There is a world of difference between them in terms of development, tail and colour. The Chinese fish are clearly way behind the Thai one but I guess there are degrees of excellence so in some respects this could be seen as an unfair comparison. My rationale for making it is that ALL the fish I saw on the Chinese site had the same merits (body and strength of caudal peduncle) and the same demerits (hood development. size of tail and colour) suggesting that what these demerits are general failings in the gene pool, particularly as they are almost certainly the best they have bred. None of us doubt that the Chinese are coming and it could be just a question of time. But, just as the world seems to be catching up, I'm sure the Japanese will change the goal posts in Ranchu development in exactly the same way as they have done and continue to do with Koi.

Gentlemen,

They are nice strong fish and the scaling is good. In general my comments are similar to John's but the discussion appears to assume that the Chinese are producing Ranchu of this quality en masse - which they may well be. But, I cannot see confirmation of that from this page - indeed we are looking at a number of pictures of only 4 Ranchu..if they are mass producing them why only show us 4??...how do you know that these 4 are not imported from Japan or elsewhere?

Regards

Andrew

I wonder if some of these proportion issues may be due to rapid growth..... Good hood development takes quality food and time, whereas body growth can be rushed. Genetics do play a huge role, but I also wonder about methods of production......

Oh, the day good ranchu become a cheap mass produced animal is the day I move on to something else. But the more I learn about ranchu, the less I see that day coming.....

Hey Dan,

Give the store a call. The last time My brother call the owner of the store or the farm owner. They are asking for $50 dollars per fish. They can import to USA too. Do you have imports license? Of course u pay for the shipping and fee.

Anyway.. take care.
