Hi guys. Can you guys give me your honest opinion on this Oranda? I bought it yesterday for $20. I've never seen one like this at my local shop :)

well, i'm not much of a judge of fish, but not a show fish here, very active though, seems healthy, but i think i might be detecting a hint of floating tail issue, hard to tell with so much current, i like the headgrowth, it's sort of more tightly packed down than most fish i've seen, doesn't make fish look so topheavy, nice fish in that respect, looks a little thin, maybe better diet would help (has probably been fed flake food for a long time)
btw, i think i saw a fish tooth in the video, i have a whole bag of those from my fish, they spit them out rather explosively
good luck with the oranda, hope i was wrong about the floating tail problem
(it's still a cute fish, btw:goldfish3:)

Thank you, and you were right about the floating tail issue. The fish grew a little, and it has developed more of the floating tail. I'm building a pond in my back yard, and he has a spot in it as I am making room for a few ranchu's from ranchumaniax.com.

Thanks again, and you have a good eye. :)

I like the pattern but he's too skinny. Fatten him up with multiple feedings a day and you could end up with a very nice fish. Belly should be bulging out, wider than the head when view from the top. Aim for an egg-shaped fish when you feed.

Don't forget for big water change if you are planning for multiple feedings.

very cute markings!
I don't know what a "floating tail issue" is but it appears that the upper lobes of his tail are possibly fused together, maybe that is what you are noticing?

nah, the floating tail thing is a swim bladder problem caused by the weird shape of these fancy goldfish, it makes their swim bladders have 2 lobes instead of just being one bubble, if the bubbles get out of whack the tail or head will float

I got used to seeing it because my goldfish had it really bad

another issue is that the swim bladder can stop growing while the fish keeps growing, so the fish will end up on the bottom, and if they had the floating tail thing too, upside down

somewhere I heard about some sort of surgery with implanting a weight in the hind end of the fish to keep it from floating... probably not a good plan if the fish will grow much more though
