5th has the most slender appearance.

slender is fine for tosai, but Nisai/Oya need to "bulk up" with age. But too short body tosai don't have the frame to make nice Oyas....

Could that be why 5th didnt place higher then? But we dont know what age these are do we?

Maybe, those are definately not Oya, Nisai at the oldest.

I think the number five fish has a much better head than the number four fish. It almost looks like the judges were partial to all the Red and White fish, which(if true) is not how Ranchu should be judged. In my opinion, a long body is desirable so long as the head, peduncle and tail are as strong as the competition. As Dan mentioned, these guys will grow into their long bodies, and will be all the more impressive as Oya. I also think number 5 is a male, and male ranchu are naturally more symmetrical than females. Females are often heavier on one side.

Yes these are what I was checkin out Bruce. I am wondering how complicated making these would be. And (unlike most) of my telescopes these "dragon balls" have butterfly tails because they are top view. I think they are bumpy, chunky , taily awesomeness! They got it all! Keep me updated on any info on making these! I am sure it will be a summer project for me to begin. +this site makes me want to make a bunch of green water! i JUST STARTED ADDING MORE LIGHTS. Lets breed dragon balls in outdoor tubs this summer ! :bounce:
