May I add to the PH? My pH usually runs higher..around 8.3 because I have almost no GH out of the tap so have to buffer the water.

pH needs to be steady..steady at 7, 8 or even 9..but the hardest part for the fish is if it's boucing around. 9 is obviously not ideal, but I ran a quarantine tank one summer that sat at 9 and I have no idea why, but the fish did fine as long as I didn't try and mess with it.
