It is several years since I bred twin tails but here is my top tip for early culling.
When the babies are still very small it is difficult to even see the tail never mind tell if it is divided or not.
So here is my top tip... on a sunny day decant the fry into about 2 inches of water in a white bowl or tray. Don't look at the fry but look at the shadow they make on the bottom of the bowl and you will clearly see if there is any division in the tail. You can even make out finer faults like 'double rays and twisted edges. It takes a little practice to decide which fry is creating which shadow so only work with a few at a time. Very quickly you will get your eye in and be removing unwanted fry at an early stage so the good fish can grow to their full potential.
I have tried this method with artificial light but even a powerful bulb does not make as good a shadow as the sun.
