Hi there all!
Been lurking and reading a while and finally joined the forum.:yess:

I am starting a 45ga pentagon/corner tank. Got it used.

Planning to put 4 fancies in it.:)

I will update as things progress.

Welcome here :)

Right now cycling is killing me. :(

I have a used setup with used gravel and power filter with biowheel.
It appeared to have completed cycling in 11 days!!! :D
Is that even possible?

I am advised from a reputable friend to start over just in case there is parasite from the used stuff... I hate to restart, getting the gravels out of the tank is such a PITA. And it will set me back another 10 days

So forging ahead with the stupid notion that I will make large water changes as advise and taking a couple of precaution with salt and Aqua-prazi. :)
Hopefully I do not kill any of my fish.

Welcome to the forum!

Starting with a used system is a roll of the dice if it wasn't your system in the first place. I have a fish room with ~25 tanks with ~18-20 in use at any one time. I never "cycle" a new tank, just add water from one of my "safe" tanks and a sponge filter that has been floating in an existing tank as well = instant fish tank.

BUT and this is a huge BUT, these are my tanks and my fish that I know are clean and safe. If this is a used tank from another source you are taking a risk adding fish to it. So use your best judgement and go from there. If you do decide to clean the tank, add some bleach to the water, stir the gravel really well drain off as much water as you possibly can, add new water and a chlorine neutralizer and start the cycle process again.

Thanks! Fishman43.

I should have nuked it, but now that it is setup and seems cycled... I am planning to WC, add salt and prazi just before adding new fish.

AND watch closely for the next 10 day, of course WC often as advised.
