I know I have to cull the fry but I just want to know what the problem is. In the spawns over the years, I've encountered fry which have an elongated belly with water (I guess), like a long bubble. Anyone knows what's that condition.

The last fry I had with this condition, died on its own. It's like a water retention, fry dropsy kind of thing.

Well, it doesn't really matter anyway. Next time I have one fry like that I'll try and take a picture.

Hi Gerard,
I have seen this before too, and it affected lots of fry in a particular spawn. I wondered if something went wrong developmentally, like temperature shock, that could have caused the fry to have swim bladder problems. Then they stay at the bottom too much and develop bacterial infections. Just a guess

Ive seen it in a batch of bristols I was given. They always died on me. I suspect it's some sort of pathogen.
If anyone sees it in the us again please send me a few sick fish and I'll have my fish vet coworkers try to figure it out.
