Sorry for the noob question.

My 40 gallon breeder tank sprung a leak, I was "fortunate" to discover it with 1/4 or the water on the basement floor.
Something told me I need to check them fishes at 2am... I am glad I did.
I bought this used and was setup when I got it. It only leaked after a week after setup. Dunno what caused it.

How do you go about resealing a standard tank (40 gallon breeder)?
Do you have to remove the "old" silicone? They look good (not dry, soft)?
I know the leak is coming from the bottom but could not pinpoint the leak.
Please help... :(

razor blade it all off, make sure its clean and free from any debris. Then get yourself some 100% aquarium silicone, and use it just like you u where to caulk a bathroom or kitchen. Apply enough to make a nice seal and smooth look when u run your finger across it...should be good as new..have done this several times

Stick a line of masking tape along both edges to get a nice clean and straight bead of silicone.Carefully pull tape off before silicone dries.

Thanks for the replies.

VTG,
I assume I do not need to razor the silicone out between the joints, correct?

RW,
Thanks for the tips!

I am a bad "caulker" LOL... Regardless right now I just want a non-leaking tank :)
How long for the silicone to dry? Is 24 hours good?
After it dries, I assume I should soak the tank before putting back the fishes? How long should I soak before it's safe for our buddies?
