Hi All,
Is it similar to regular Prime? Is it cheaper to use? Thanks :)

I'm not sure about Pond Prime, but if you want an economy size bottle of Prime, check out Aquatic Ecosystems online. They sell 2L bottles and larger.

Pond prime seems to be able to do 2x the amount of water as regular prime. I don't know of any differences, except it might be more concentrated.

I think their prices have gone up since I last purchased from them, maybe someone has it cheaper?
I have heard of people using sodium thiosulfate crystals (spelling?) but I believe this is only for chlorine, not for chloramine.

Amquel and ChlorAm-X will also remove chlorine, break chloramines and bind the resulting ammonia. These products are sold as a dry powder and are much cheaper to use. Also, if you are mail-ordering, you do not pay for shipping water; only the active ingredient.
However, Prime also chelates heavy metals such as copper and zinc which could be leaching from the pipes which connect your house to the municipal water supply. In most instances, heavy metals are not a problem so this could be an over-kill. The most cost effective way to chelate heavy metals is to add EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) so I assume Prime contains EDTA. EDTA used for water treatment (not human consumption) can be purchased as a dry powder at a very reasonable cost and, again, shipping costs are minimal since you are only shipping the active ingredient.
So, if you are treating a lot of water and the cost of Prime is a burden, you could investigate purchasing Amquel or ChlorAm-X and, if warranted, EDTA.

Here's the best deal out there that I know of:
http://www.reed-mariculture.com/cloram-x/
The price includes shipping.
The Reed brothers are great guys. They grow algae, rotifers and copepods for aquaculture and the reef hobby.
