Just buy fish that you like, pick the robust one that swims about actively without buoyancy issue. You should assume that all imported fish have been exposed to parasites, and if scraping can't be done at least treat for general parasites during QT--but wait until they perk up from relocation first.
Singapore is a country with goldfish craze phenomenon like Japan, Thailand, China, etc.; so the selections should be pretty good provided that your lfs has good connections and know how to pick fish.

of course always look for good breeding stock, and healthy lively fish. i have a microscope and LOVE scraping! Very excited to see these. Not sure how many singapore imports come to ohio. I am curious to see these pearlscale, tiku or other. And not sure what to think about white orandas but will check them out. Also looking to find stronger shoulders on butterfly tails. will let you know what i get!

I am just wondering, how to ship goldfish from Singapore to your home town? I can get plenty of very high quality goldfish at reasonable price.

Shipping is easy, import license and the shipment has go to a Agricultural inpection airport and you must have SVC paperwork.

Is it summer over there? I guess the pearls are super adorable and round balls though small which is good, more affordable. Yes I do not know if this store will raise the prices but will see. it is my bday present! ~maybe~ will see how quality they are. I hear good things bout Sing. fish! Will see if goldfish are the only 'type' of livestock their getting. Pearlscales like .25 cents in singapore might be $15.00 here!
~cinci you can come up and check em out w me!

Out of curiosity, what is the best Columbus area fish store. I am up there pretty regularly and have been on CAFE's forum and it seems like mostly chains????
Thanks,
Chris

Orandablue,
Singapore is tropical, other than more abundant rain during the monsoon season around year end, I believe it is around 30-32 Celcius daytime and around 26 Celcius nighttime. At least that is how Malaysia is, when I was there.
Note: Malaysia is Singapore's northern neighbor.

:exact:yeah it is 20F here in ohio at night. So "cold water" goldfish in Sing./Malasia might not be used to lower temps. They will be cold? I wonder if their blood is actually "thinner"? Most of my tanks are warm anyway but just curious. I guess will find out tomorrow:yess:!

Singapore/Malaysia One of the biggest distributors in the US has a farm in Malaysia they are bringing in a lot of pet shop grade fish. Do not confuse with the real thing or it will set your breeding back 3 years or more.

Getting the stuff done on my end is not the problem. Once out of Singapore is my problem.

We need to find a transshipper who already is bringing in lower end fish and have some high end fish tagged on to the shipment. All the fees are based on a per shipment basis.

checked out the shipment and sifted through 300 lionhead/ranchus and calico telescopes. It took a 1 1/2 hrs to find my new gems! So much fun! It is very hard to count anal fins on 1 1/2 inch fish! So walked with 15 o.k. specimens and possibly two "hidden gems". At the price I will take it! The colors where odd and found some interesting pattern and colors. Maybe even a crystal color lionhead! And blk wht ranchu. The telescopes looked rounder and stouter than any I have seen around here, (from china). They have HUGE eyes! I found one with matte blk n wht color and good shape I am excited about using for dragonballs. Will see how they grow out! At least they look healthy.
~other bday surprise was a ranchu spawn!~ busy busy
My new evil plan is to get employed at this store to infiltrate the GF shipping and gather info>:)
