In a goldfish tank, do anubias do best attached to a driftwood piece, rooted in gravel or free floating?

I like to anchor the plants in cups or bowls of marbles. Too afraid of the damage driftwood can do to goldies. Very smooth river rocks would be another good attachment option.

Hi DDD,
Yes, I was thinking about that too with a cup or bowl. This way no need to keep cleaning. I hate cleaning now!!!
Thank you for all of you.

I don't understand how would you attach anubias to cups and marbles--can you clarify? Would love a photo, if possible. Also, I have read cautions about driftwood in aquariums. But I wonder if this is solely conjecture. Has anyone had actual, bad experiences with driftwood in their goldfish aquariums? I figured attaching anubias and ferns to driftwood would be a GREAT alternative to a gravel bottom. I sincerely believe that live plants not only add beauty to a tank, but biological benefits. I am very interested in people's experiences with planted aquaria and goldfish.
The sand bottom idea also has me thinking......

In a tank that is almost completely free of hard objects save 2 intake tubes, spray bars, and a heater, my goldfish still manage to scratch themselves up. IMO, if it's in there and they can gouge themselves on it, at some point they will. About using cups and marbles to anchor anubias, you just bury the roots in the cup full of marbles. The large grain size offers enough water movement for the roots as long as the rhizome is not buried, and the whole thing is easily pulled out and flushed in the sink for cleaning.
