The last few days I have culled about 250 fry. Still way overstocked but it is getting easier.
This is the method I've been using: scoop out about 6 fry and transfer to a pyrex bread pan, I look them over and try to pick my favorite one (sometimes 2), the rest get culled.
The main criteria I am using is the tail, 1. if it is spread out, and 2. if it seems proportionally large to the body.
I am also seeing some interesting development in coloration. So I am saving any that seem unusual in their color - even though it is still a mystery as to what these differences will lead to.
There are now 5 fry vessels in my living and sitting rooms. (thank God for a patient and understanding husband). The original hatchery - 20G long, 1 10G and 1 20G tall scavenged from relatives, and 2 plastic tubs that have about 8G of water at the moment. There are about 40 -50 fry in the 3 smallest and about 70 in the second largest and still a couple of hundred in the original tank.
They get live bbs in the morning and evening and frozen bbs in the afternoon although I have just started giving Hikari first bites (I think they may already be too big for it but seem to like it anyway). I also made some Gel food that they seem to like once they discover it. (I am going to write more about it in the Gel food thread).
So it is a ton of work with all the water changes and only 3 buckets, lol, but we are managing pretty well. I'll try and get some current pictures up soon too.
