Three days ago 18 little blue egg phoenix (incl. one or another shukin) arrived via mail. It seems to us that they have grown already. Here are 2 of the larger ones, now about 5 weeks old:

Hello Sabine,
Glad to see that there is another Canadian on board with preserving this beautiful variety of Chinese goldfish. Best of luck with these fish.

Hi Billy,
Incidentally, the morning I set out to meet Ted for the Tosakins, my BEPs spawned, giving these fry. I tried Xpresspost of Canada Post and it took 48 hours from Montreal to Elliot Lake, N Ontario. It's pretty good for 3-6 weeks fry. Let me know when you need to swap fry.

According to Canada Post tracking, the box reached Mississauga, ON the next day.

I still have about 40 BEP fry of 2.5 cm (1 inch); they've been moved to a 33 gallon tank today. Unfortunately, none shows a nice split tail. Oh well, next spawn ...

Overall time for the BEPs fry (in the bags) from Montreal to Vancouver is 52 hours. Two Kordon bags 7.5 x 12 with 6 fry of about 1 inch each, in 800 ml of water each. The 2 bags were inserted in another bigger Kordon bag which was then placed in a 9.5 x 6 x 6 box with newspaper to absorb shocks. Fry arrived safely; No DOA according to Cheeky-ran.

The largest and hungriest of my BEP: 4 cm long, and with a clear blue tone in daylight that is hard to capture with the camera though:

There is also a very nice shukin in the crowd.

How are the BEPs in Montreal and Vancouver doing?
I reduced their number to 10 (plus 1 beautiful shukin).
Here is a pic of two medium sized ones:

About half of them have slightly pinched tails, the others have tails that may still divide a bit more. Some are growing like weeds, others are slow to grow, but those seem to have the better tails. Really nice little fish!
Hard to take pictures of them - one of these days we'll take them outside to photograph them in natural light.

Thanks for the picture! Sabine, I see that they are in good hands! 2011 BEP fry in Montreal are doing well. I have not paid close attention to them but they look quite nice. I wish I could take such great pictures as yours.
We have not got news from Vancouver. Cheeky-ran was supposed to do a more regular login, not to say update on the BEPs in Vancouver.>:)

These are the larger of the BEP, 9 cm long. They spent the summer outdoors in the pond, with the wakin. The brown fish in the background in the upper right is a Tsugaru nishiki.
There are also 4 much smaller BEPs who are taking their time growing but seem to have the better tails and backs. They spent the summer in the house. I'll try to get some pics of those in a while too.
