Thailand Princess Cup Champ, from NK Farm. This is the type of tail that is popular in Asia.

These are all from the Aquarama competition in Singpore:

I'm guessing these would all be disqualified by the "standard" nazis in the US and UK, but I really like them a lot.

The winner of the AMGK show on Saturday. My poor photography doesn't do this fish any justice!

Why in hades would those Aquarama fish be DQed? Comments like that puzzle me. Are they perfect? No, but no fish is. Thats why is called standard of "perfection"... Not standard of pretty good.

What type of tail set are they on those beautiful oranda? What will u call? Would like to learn. Atleast they don't look forking at all. But not really butterfly, and not truly veiltail and not really broadtail. I am confused this time. But I knew one thing. I love their tail set.

As anyone knows that breeds Veiltails, achiving good Veil finnage is one of the most difficult feats in breeding. Very few make it. The main thing to breed for in Orandas is as high a dorsal as possible and full finnage with minimal forking. The UK Oranda has more depth of tail, but those fish have been linebred for Veil finnage for decades. The UK fish are a testment to hobbiest dedication and focus. Heck, I would love to get my hands on those British Fantails, fantastic....

This fish has a best owner bred sticker. Who raised this fish? Good Job.

I thought the caudal fins were too short:youtellme:

There is a difference between a fault and a DQ... Obviously the fuller the fins the better. Some of those have very nice finnage. Balance of the finnage and body must also be considered. One thing I did not like about the Gf when I was judging at Aquarama in 05, was alot of them were too fat to deport or move. But thats another topic
Again, just because a fish is not perfect does not mean its not a good fish. All fish can be improved. If it were easy, whats the point?

Who's to say what is perfect? Is Rembrant perfect? Or Picasso? Wouldn't a perfect goldfish be. A carp?

It is Andrew Barton's fish. He is one of the top UK breeders. My photography really doesn't do this fish justice. I was speechless when I saw it, and seriously considered changing my breeding to include orandas.

I agree with Dan because this is the same thing with each breed standard for dogs. Some breeders will have their own vision of the standard but it should not be to the point that the breed they are breeding no longer looks like what its supposed to.
I think the fish in the video are nice and I just see some different tails than the ones in america.

All my orandas were very nice, Eddie my calico, Demilles the black and my jumbo red/white were from goldfish utopia. I did have a Rain garden fish (A.J.) RIP who definitely had the cutest face and the nicest head growth but had a curved dorsal fin and somewhat poor body shape. If I remember the body to tail ration is about 2/3 the length of the body?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. All I'm saying is it's not the size of the tail that matters. It's how you use it.
I guess I must be crazy because the AMGK oranda just doesn't do it for me.
I also don't like any any grammy winning bands, or any emmy winning tv shows either. Please don't be offended. I was just trying to get a discussion going. I will shut up now.

I am just confused now not sure why your getting upset you stated this
"I'm guessing these would all be disqualified by the "standard" nazis in the US and UK, but I really like them a lot."
All Dan was saying is they would not be DQ in a AGA show. All I said is I agree.. From what I see these fish would lose some points in a few areas. Again its like showing any animal. You will have different types and standards all over the world for one breed of animal. These animals can be shown all over the world and still win grant that they follow the standard enough ( dogs) Some breeds will have drastic standards and look nothing like a bred from another region. ( I will post an OT about dogs later so you can see some stuff about dogs. I have a few examples for you to see)
I agree with you with about AMGK fish I am not in love with them either. IMO the tail just don't match with the fish. I don't think anyone is wrong to like a certain type of fish. The fish in the video you posted I ADORE !
I also do not watch "grammy winning bands, or any emmy winning tv shows either." LOL does not mean I don't like dog showing or animal showing lol
I hope you didn't take what I posted the wrong way :)

BTW... does an oranda get extra points if its face is cute and chubby?? I have had numerous people say orandas have a "puppy" face. My big one has a face you'll fall in love with at first sight while Eddie my calico has the face of an eel.

*Sigh*
I feel like I must be speaking a different language than any of you people. I can't post anything on this forum without somebody taking it completely the wrong way. I think that the problem is because of the generation gap between us. I realise that this forum is for the most part dominated by members of the 'greatest generation'. I am a 26 year old, long haired city slicker. I am sure many of you folks would refer to as a "hippy" if you met me in real life. We come from completely different ends of the spectrum, and probably the only thing that we share in common is our love of goldfish.:) The way that I talk may seem completely foreign to many of you, but trust me, I mean no disrespect. This is just how a lot of people of my generation talk to each other as friends. The word "nazi" is just a light hearted way of saying anal retentive. We will often say things to each other like "Hey, stop being such a nazi". It's a joke. Get it????????

I like how you assume everyone on here is older :youtellme:
I am 27 ( living in la la land) lol I know the nazi part was a joke ... I also knew you meant it to be anal. I dunno, when you say things like that to show people it just does not make sense to us. You make it sound like none of those fish would win in a AGA show. I don't even know that much about GF and I already know that they would win if they where the best fish of the day.
Again sorry if you think I am old and don't understand your post. >:D< its ok no hard feelings.

I dunno about having a cute face would get you points. A good developed wen and cheeks will.
Not sure why you down play your other orandas since you got that big orange and white one. It looks like the big one was sold to you fully developed and groomed . I think your calico can be nice once your groom him. His face does not look like an eel :( Your black one is also a nice fish. I even liked A.J.

It would take alot more than a message board post of someone I have never ment to offend me...LOL
I got the joke(I am in my 30's btw) but thats not what concerned me. Someone passing on to others that such fish would be DQed, obviously without the knowledge(since they would most certainly not) of such standards concerns me. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but since the statement is false, I have to call it out, for the sake of others who want to learn. But again, since he feels such standards are a negative thing, it really should not matter.

I'm 34. Its not that there are a bunch of older people on the list but rather everything you say on here is can be taken one of several ways.
Many people on here take their goldfish very seriously. I think we're all at different levels and this is an advance forum so it takes new people a while to get that frank discussion isn't a fight it's just to the point.

I'm an old fart and don't see why this is even a conversation.... Guess I'll go outside and pet our koi. :P
btw... we live in Milwaukee, awhagd.
age is a state of mind any way. As a mental health professional i have worked with very young people who like they are very old and some older individuals who acted very young and hip. it is all in you view of the world. i have said this before, no one on this site is mean or inappropriate in any sense of the word. The people here are just hones, direct, and to the point. For me that is all that I ask in a individual is to be honest and sincere and everyone here is that way.

Nothing wrong with being an old fart, as long as your a cool old fart>:) I know quite a few of them myself.
Believe it or not, I have actually read almost all of the threads on this site so I know that there are a lot of rude and inconsiderate remarks that get thrown around. I'd say 95% of the people here are cool, but it only takes a few bad apples... For example, I like how one of the first comments I got from anyone here was something like, "please refrain from posting here" I don't buy the excuse that they are just very serious. It's all about ego if you ask me.
I only started posting because I noticed that a lot of the noobies were not getting their questions answered. Funny how we don't have time to help these people, yet we have plenty of time to 'call people out'
Bruce: you live in Milwuakee proper? What part of town?

Cripes. we have a whole damn section for answering newbies questions. And if you take the time a search, most basic questions are answered anyway...
This site was created by a serious gf breeder/groomer for such, since most other gf sites are geared more for the pet goldfish world. And their is just as much arrogance on those sites as well, its called human nature.
You post fish, call us standard nazis without even hearing our opinion, and call us arrogant? whatever.

Relax bro. Arrogance is not a part of human nature. It's a choice you make.
Screw you guys. I'm off to aquapuppies.
