It's finally built! 14' x 14'. Just painted the floor. After the insulation and paneling tomorrow, it'll be ready to move the fish in. Ugh, I thought this day would never come.

Congrats.

How cold do you get in the winter and will you heat it?

Did you install vapor barrier in the walls and ceiling?

Our winters are pretty mild, but it will be heated in the winter.

I have not yet installed anything, but I'll look into the vapor barrier. I assume that is to keep the wood from rotting with moisture. I think we are going to use the drywall made for wet areas. Any other suggestions, David or anyone who has a fish room?

Put plastic vapor barrier between the studs an drywall. This prevents water from migrating through and condensing on the exterior walls.

It looks like the place you go to play house, goldfish style! Will it be wired? Several heaters can draw some juice. Extension cords, plus long distances, plus some draw and they can get hot! esp. at the plugs.

So hold on a sec..... I thought that everything in Tx is bigger.......:)

HA! My new playhouse is exactly it! It will be wired.

I wish I could have built something like that.. man 30 x 12! I could fit a lot of fish in that bad boy.

My fish house interior wall are exterior grade plywood and the floor is lined with 60 mil HDPE afte treating with Thompsons water seal. After two years it is still perfect

Vapor barrier is for a heated and insulated structure.

Anything will last two years, its year 6 or 10 you worry about.

I agree with the need of a vapor barrier. I built a similar fish house w/o a vapor barrier and it had tons of condensation on the inner side of the outside walls during the winter. The drywall for wet areas is water resistant, not water proof.

Sorry plywood, then vapor barrier, then insulation( including floor), then exteriro paneling. Mine is also wired, I have a small heater that you can set. I keep mine at 52F. Pella windows.

I hadn't thought about the floor much. I used a water sealant but that's it. I was worried about moisture underneath the structure, so I figured I'd leave it exposed for max air-flow.... What did you use for insulating the floor?

I put in a plywood bottom then 2" foam board and the floor, then waterseal, then 60mil textured Landfill liner up the walls 8". a non-slip floor that will last 100+ years. Walls have R--? that is 6" deep wit a vapor barrieir.

My 15x10 fishhouse has a concrete floor. The walls are made of plywood with vapor barrier, insulation R? (must check again). It is wired and has 110 V and 220V for a garage type heater. Windows are similar to house windows with double glass. There is no insulation on the floor but under each tub, I put 2 inch insulation boards.
