Hey All,

If you are ever in the Miami area, check out Tropical Fish Miami. It is a fish farm with outdoor concrete ponds. They have lots of goldfish and koi, plus many other cichlids, guppies, plecos, mollies, tetras, etc. The prices were unbelievably low, but unfortunately, they do not ship. The concrete ponds are covered in algae and in bright sunlight the fish looked very healthy, and it was interesting to see angels and guppies kept in the same ponds with goldfish. They had terrific calico orandas, but unfortunately, I had no way to get them home, so I could not buy any. Take a look at the pics in my album.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks Rob. Seems like the Goldfish are of pretty great quality. Makes me want to go back to red caps

i live pretty close to that farm and it is pretty cool. they once had an albino lionhead that i tried to get them to part with but they would not sell. it was reallly cool. the tropical fish section is outstanding as the fish are kept outside year round. the colors on the fish are amazing. they even have a nice selection of live plants. a lot of people in miami keep tropical and even salt water fish in pond set ups more so then goldfish and koi due to high heat and humidity that we have almost year round

Hey Joe,

If you are interested, I bet you could make a profit by procuring nice goldfish from this farm and arranging next day shipping for folks:)

Just a thought.

when i get a break over the christmas holiday, i am going to research all of the farms that we have in miami. there are many farms located south of here in homestead which is about 15 miles south of me. They do not advertise but will allow you to tour their facilities and purchase fish from them. They usually have a good selection of goldfish but as usual specialize in tropicals that are kept outside year round. I will post these listing for all of our members and perhaps they can arrange to purchase fish from them. it is also a great excuse for some of you to get out of the cold weahter that many of you are in and come down heree for a vacation. I will inquire if the neighborhood fish farm can ship to our members along with posting better pictures of the goldfish that they have to offer I really do not want to make any profit from the members here

Hi Rob,

Why didn't you send a box of gf through USPS or other to your home the last day of your stay in Miami? It would arrive the day you get back home?:me:

Hey Gerard,

I think I might give that idea a try the next time I am there. The store employees claim they have had bad luck using USPS from Miami to NY or DC, but they also claim that customers have been able to bring fish home in their carry on luggage via a small playmate cooler...sounds risky though, might depend which TSA agent greets you at the airport.

Registered luggage yes, but no carry-on! 100ml of liquid is a maximum. Depending on the number of fish, use a rubbermaid storage box (or similar) that can fit your suitcase, put fish in plastic bags with O2 as usual and protect with clothes or towels. I did that with 2 such boxes from UK and brought 22 tosai gf.
