I made my first batch of gel food last night.

I didn't have all the fancy stuff that other people have in the recipe, I was really trying to figure out how much of the unflavored gelatin to use.

Ill have to post pics later. I only made a small batch to test, but I think it came out good. I use that as seen on TV crap magic bullet, those things does not work well, I might need to get a hand blender or something.

I only made this last night because I went to an all you can eat sushi bar and stole a piece of salmon, piece of tuna, 4 piece of white tuna :)
1/3 cup of peas
1 little garlic chopped
1 really small bag of gelatin

I didn't have oatmeal like Judge had in his recipe, but basically cook everything and throw in that magic bullet blend and put in fridge. It actually smell pretty good to eat :)

I tested a little piece this morning, they seem to love it. I'll have to get my exact measurements from the packets.

My next batch will come with acidophilus and vitamins.. stuff I dont have in the house, also I saw people use red peppers and kale, etc.. Basically more veggie to blend in.

Also I remember to hook up my laptop to ustream this morning, here's my little tank.

Ill have to get a better camera also :)

Thanks for the pictures and description! I might have to try this, it'll be a great way to add vegetables to my goldfish diet. Honestly, I didn't expect it to be this simple.

Ill post the exact gelatin I used, I didn't look in the box carefully last night.. its like a box with 4 small packets in it..

very easy and ill never have to buy food... ill just visit an all you can eat sushi bar once a month and save some salmon or tuna for the fish :)

BTW I was trying to follow Judge's gel food @ http://goldfishkeepers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2906

I too have converted to gel food. I am trying finish off my hikari foods though.
Lately I've been mixing up between the two. However if they see the gel, its like a feed frenzy!!!

you can always grind the hikari food into the gel food :) i will do that on my next batch, i have some left over hikari too

My wife and I experimented today with the gel food recipe having found a pack of gelatine in one of the larger supermarkets in Lagos.

Peas, prawns, spinach, garlic, a dash of soy sauce and the remnants of Sera Goldy flake food tub we brought back from the UK at Xmas.

Just tried it out on the two rapidly growing and colour changing goldfish and after a little 'indecision' we seem to have a feeding frenzy on our hands.

Will experiment with some other ingredients and get the mixture a little firmer next time but so far so good it seems !

Thank you for the guidance.

Might not want to feed the "white tuna" to your goldfish... I love that stuff, its my favorite for Sashimi... BUT it actually is illegal in several countries as a food (including Japan I think), because it is very very high in some sort of fat that causes loosening of the bowels.

If you're going for weight loss... natural laxatives are awesome... but if you're going for weight gain, might want to lay off the natural laxatives.

But I love the idea of feeding them raw food... they get enzymes that way! :exact:

They call it white tuna but its not real white tuna.. you are correct.. i got a great story about that...

I went to big all you can eat here, didn't know about white tuna, it was so creamy, sweet, so I ate about 2 plate full.. needless to say, guess where I spent the next 2 DAYS !!!

i sat on the bowel for hours, huge cramps all day long, i couldn't do anything... it was so painful, now I only get 5-10 piece max, not 50

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escolar - "white tuna"

What I had suffered....
Escolar's wax ester content can cause keriorrhea (Greek: flow of wax), gempylotoxism or gempylid fish poisoning.[3] Keriorrhea is similar to diarrhea, only the body will expel yellowish-orange drops of oil instead of liquid bowel movements. Some individuals suffering from escolar-induced keriorrhea also report other digestive issues, including stomach cramps, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and anal leakage; onset may occur between 30 minutes and 36 hours following consumption.[4] This condition may also be referred to as steatorrhea.
