My large Telescope butterfly spawned on Tuesday while I was at work. Most of the eggs were eaten by the time I got home. She was gasping desperately and constantly for 4 days before the spawn (not at the surface) This behavior stopped after the spawning and she seemed fine for 2 days since. Now today she is bottom sitting in a corner, all fins clamped to her body. She gets up only briefly when the other two fish come to investigate and then she immediately goes back down in the corner. She has always been lively and has never sat on the bottom. Ever.
Water parameters are good.
Any ideas?

Spawning all day is really stressful, the panting might suggest the spawning really bruised her and she should be isilated in a large space , dark and by herself. Alternatively the stress was such that flukes or other diseases have spread.
My first choice would be short term isolation with Adult frozen brine shrimp, nothing else ( soft food)

i agree with gary, isolate her in tank by herself. check her belly does it feel soft and mushy or firm, she may be egg bound. keep a very small circulation of water going may be just an air stone along with daily water changes

Thanks guys. Her belly has a soft tension to it... I don't think it is "mushy". But then I don't have a lot of experience to compare to!
There are no other symptoms yet, but I do have a scope and could have a look tomorrow for a parasite take over. No flicking or flashing at this point.

The confusing thing to me is that after spawning, she seemed tired but pretty much normal in her behavior for 2 days. Now day 3 post spawn, she is bottomed out. I should think she'd be exhausted every day post spawning?
Can they develop bacterial infections if there are retained eggs?

She is in her own quiet apartment now and had shrimps for dinner.
thanks for your help.

yes it is quite possible that secondary infections can take hold after spawning remember the fish defense system is down due to the activity of spawning. i am glad you have the scope

It has both... Sections of normal color poop, some strings in between and a few bubbles. Should I see how it goes...or would you start meds ? I have. Metro med, baytril, oxl acid and medi gold

If she is eating there is great hope, change water add some salt perhaps. Watch and see
