I bought a black ranchu(5") 2.5 weeks ago, and she was really black. Now she seems turning into Goldish color.

I have been feeding her frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Any advice in terms what to feed or maintenance do I need to be aware of in order to keep her in black?

Thanks

Paint it with touchup or paint it with nail polish. Make sure to get a waterproof.

I guess this what you have been doing for all your fish..

Great Idea. I think I'm gonna paint it with multiple colors cuz I want a Calica Ranchu really really bad. Hahaa

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaughing.

First question is Chinese or Tai?

If Chinese, you be screwed!
If Tai, put outside in direct sun asap or increase indoor light wattage and leave on 24/7.

In reality I have rasied and bred black ranchu numerous times and they always turn green for me. Tedster on this page should be contacted as he is good with keeping Tai fish black...
Sorry I'm not optimistic.

The way i keep my black fish black is using 10K light and turn on most of the time. Bare bottom w/form sheet underneath the tank. Foods with no color enhance, which what you feed are great. I keep Thai Black and they're love warm/hot water. Temp is 85-90F.

You might also want to try painting the underside of the aquarium black. My shubunkin fry are always darker when I raise them in painted bottom tanks. Over time, the effect has some staying power.

No, painting the bottom of the tank will lost the reflection of sunlight/light to fish's stomach. I use foam to help the reflection stronger. This way i keep my black ranchu stomach turn black. I turn off light, their stomach getting goldies. I personally do not believe with black genetic, so lighting are most important to my black fish.

I keep some of my black fish w/o light and they're turn to goldies/greed/olive to me.

stop feeding the brine shrimp. Anything with carotene in it will cause black fish to decolor. I would call the vendor and ask about the ph. Some black fish loose their black color when there is a change in ph or other buffering agents in the water. Cincy Ranchu is correct that the black chinese ranchu (lionchu) do not hold the black color as well as the Thai ranchu

Sorry guys. It's very unfortunate, the fish is Chinese bred. I got her from my LFS.

Would a regular energy saving day light bulb work on this issue? I have a 75 watt bulb and it is on 9 hours a day. It mimics the sun light, so it is in yellowish color.

I will stop feeding brine shrimp, see how it goes.

I am not sure about the light system that you are speaking about but I have heard of keeping the fish black by placing them in green water (alage that has turned the water green). Go to goldfishutopia.com I think that they have a food that is designed to keep black fish black.

Yeah, I am trying to brew some green water, but I need to make sure I'm using the right lighting first.

You need a lot of light for indooor green water. Like 55 watts per 20 gallons.
I also have a chinese blackie and he is starting to lose his black. I might try the GW.

I was told that WPG is not the only number we need in this equation. In order to brew GW, the intensity of the light plays a very important role in this as well.

Someone told me I need the light in 10000 kelvin something. I'm still experimenting with a 75g regular bulb. If this is not gonna work in week or two, I probably need to switch the light. I will keep you guys updated.

Buy a can of spirolina powder from aquaticeco make gel food or steam eggs with a lot of the powder in it. That will keep them jet black. Sunlight will help keep a fish’s color stay permanent but the powder will help keep the fish’s deep, dark coloration.

I do not really agree with green water will help fish getting black.
I prefer to have clean and clear water for the blackie!

You also want the light to be closer to the light the sun puts out. Closer to 6700kish. Not sure if you visit RG site but that is where I get my info from.

Really? I was worried that the Spirulina powder would turn the fish red.....
