Still an experiment in the working... Planted heavily with fast growing tough stem plants right off the bat to see if I can't cut down on any algae problems that might manifest. The substrate is eco complete overlaid by the white sand that was previously in the tank. WC regimen is 60% every 4 or 5 days.
What do you all think?

I really like it. Please let us know how it works for algae control. I would love to see more pics. Are you doing C02?

No co2 but I'll be dosing excel until all the plants get established. Even with the sand, my nitrates never get above 20 between water changes, but it'll be interesting to see whether the plants serve to trap debris and increase nitrates, or will be pulling them out of the water fast enough to even lower my levels maybe.
I love it! How is the sand working out for your goldfish? I'm asking because a friend of mine had sand in her tank and she had to take a goldfish to her vets because he got sand in his gills.

Thanks! Never had any problem with it. They sift through it for food all the time, no issues so far. I'll keep an eye out though.

Would the sand eventually sift to the bottom because grain size is so much smaller than the eco complete?

Just planted the tank yesterday so haven't dosed anything yet. About the sand sifting through the eco, the eco is pretty mixed in grain size itself, but maybe. The black and white doesn't look half bad together any way. Guess it remains to be seen.
I am loving that background as well. Where did you get it?

Thanks Jed... A lot of people say its cheesy but I love it too, and the light blue color is just perfect for showing off goldies too (IMO).

For tanks above the 75 gallon or 60" 150 sizes, it might be easier to look for wall murals.

Wow... Seems like the fish have mosh parties every night, as I always wake up to a giant bunch of stems floating at the top. So far, the hygro angustifolia is doing the poorest, and the corymbosa is the clear winner. Next time, I think I'll rely more heavily on rosette plants, as they seem to be doing better at staying down.

I was thinking about murals. I've always loved your background. There is nothing cheesy about it.
