I can understand certain titles used to identify certain forum members, for example Moderator and Administrator, but where do the classifications Senior Member, Member, Junior Member come from and who determines them? Surely we are all Members and therefore no classification is necessary! As a silver-haired, 64 year old Grandpa with over 30 years of SERIOUS Goldfish breeding experience behind me,(and 10 years or so "playing about" before then) and now,
a) hatching between 20,000 and 100,000 fancy goldfish fry each year,
b) regularly winning major awards at all specialist Goldfish shows in the UK and all with fish I have bred myself,
c) Chairman of the Goldfish Society of Great Britain,
d) Leader of Jinchu Kai UK (a specialist Ranchu Society)
e) Senior Goldfish Judge in UK and have also judged in USA (Chicago, 2007) and Japan (Ranchu, Yokohama, 2002,
my classification of "Junior Member" on this site amuses me. I just wish I really was a junior member, as long as I retained all the knowledge I have now, then I could look forward to enjoying another 50 or 60 years playing with my Goldfish!

johnatoranchu, the classification are named as post count. Since this is so new forum. And we just starting posting, we all are junior member. As mush knowledge we share meaning as much post we did. The classification will get up. Im telling you, many member on this forum are expert.

For me, im just a newbies....>:)

Hi John,
Thanks for the question. I can understand your point of view for the status of the membership. As Paul explain above, these titles are the default titles that come with the purchase of the forum software. It has nothing to do with personal experience. The software assume that you are a senior member when you have certain number of posts (100).
I did a special arrangement for those contributes a lot to goldfish society. But I couldn't assign this title to every new member until I know the person. Now I know that you have done so much for the goldfish world, I will assign the "ambassador" role to you.
Please ignore the software design which aim for the general audience. And hope you can understand. Thank you.

Wow!, thanks for the title of "Ambassador". Is it not possible to amend the software so that the classification "Junior Member" is dropped and becomes "Member" instead?

In the other forums I peruse, you can generally choose for yourself what title you would like. Is that possible here?

I fixed the issue. User with less than 30 posts will be called "New Member", the rest will be "Member".

I am working for it. Seem like it is required to install new component.

How come I suddenly become a "professional breeder" which I don't think I am. It is true that I grew up in a goldfish farm in Hong Kong and sold goldfish in the early morning goldfish market for many years during my childhood. But I am not doing any servious breeding now in the US. I also found out that the traditional methods we used in the 70s and 80s were very outdated. We know nothing about genetic, nitrogen cycle, and disease management. I think I am now more a hobbyist than a "breeder". And I am learning a lot from people here, like Gary and John. Any chance that I can be changed back to just a regular member.

I would like to be an "artisanal breeder" instead of a "professional breeder".

You can actually change your classification yourself if you want: go to User CP on the main links up near the top, then look to the left column under "Your Control Panel", then under "Your Profile", then under "Edit Your Details", then under "Optional Information: Custom User Title". This is how I became a "Fish Geek". :confuse:

Oh, thanks Eric. Maybe I'll make myself 'President', or perhaps 'Administrator'.
