Hi all,

I'm new here but some of you may know me, Gerard. I'm from Montreal and I've been to the Breeders Social in Cincinnati a few times. I've been keeping and breeding goldfish for many years and still only have tanks. I'm interested in the rare varieties but only have space for 4 or 5. God, it's hard to keep these numbers low!!! Looking forward to talking to you.

Gerard

Hi Gerard, glad you're here :)
Which varieties are you keeping now? Are you able to find good quality fish in Montreal?

Thanks for the welcome.

Presently, I'm keeping Blue Egg phoenixes, Bristols, Ranchus and Veils. In Montreal, the quality of the regular chinese varieties is good (ryukins, orandas, moors, bubbleeyes) as most of them come from Tung Hoi. Those coming from Singapore is not too bad as I've been able to buy a few fish from these lots. For more discriminate hobbyists, we have to be patient to look through a lot of lower quality fish or be lucky or have a special program.

For Japanese stuff (Ranchus, Jikins and Tosakins), The Fish Sempai is a good source.

Hi Gerard!

Welcome to Goldfish Keepers. You mentioned Fish Sempai as being a good source for Japanese fish, and I agree. However, Andrew is no longer shipping to the U.S. and I'm just sick about it.

Hi Jed,

I'm surprised. Andrew built himself a new farm and all. I'll check on that.

Thanks, Gerard. I like to keep all my options open.

Gerard,

It's good to see you here. How are all your fish doing? Any spawns this years?

Jed,

Andrew (Fish Sempai) is unable to ship to the US due to new Fish & Wildlife regulations.

Regards,

Ted

Thanks Ted! Good to see you here too.

My GF are doing well, except the Tosas which remained small and eventually died. Hope you get your Jikins breed this year.

Still cold, no chasing but still hoping.

Great to see you, time for an expansion I think. Five or six seasonl tubs that go outside in the summer would be a good start! Sorry the tee shirt thing didn't work out, Russ out did himself this year.

Outdoor expansion? I wish... but my wife may not agree before some work around the house is done, lol.

Sorry for the T-shirts, Gary. If you`ll be stuck with them, send them to me anyway. Thx.

I checked with Andrew (TFS). Ted is right, new Fish and Wildlife regulations make it hard for GF export to the US.

Good to hear from you Gerard.
If you have trouble keeping the numbers low, I reccomend a potassium permanganate overdose. I've heard it's very popular. If that's not your style I can send you some very hardy flukes or some of my 2 week old ranchu that just won't eat.

Hi Norm,

I sure recognize your sense of humor. Good to hear from you too, Norm!

I think it involves some type of brain amoeba he got out of Gary's Midnight pond a couple Septembers ago. };)

Hi Karell,

Great to see you here.

All, Karell is breeding blue orandas. We don't see these orandas much in the Greater Montreal Area.
