Just a point of interest only. Most who see the Japanese fringetail drawing in Innes's books believe this is Barrett's oringinal drawing. However if you compare it to the original in Wolf's 1908 book from which Innes drew his material, the 1908 drawing has a slit between the lobes of the caudal and has much more detail. Also, the drawing has been reversed for later Innes editions.
Anyone interested in the early history of goldfish in American should read "The Toy Fish" by Al Klee available from Lee Findley on Aquabid. It's a fantastic book. |
